How does the Neroberg railway work?
The mountain railway at the foot of Wiesbaden's Neroberg was opened on 25 September 1888 and has been transporting visitors up Wiesbaden's local mountain at a speed of 7.3 km/h ever since. This works thanks to an ingenious drive system: at the top station, the carriage is filled with up to 7,000 litres of water and then pulls the other carriage uphill on a steel cable. Once the downhill carriage has reached the bottom, the water is drained and pumped back up again.
